The Trip - Are we there yet?

The bus trips were long, but Vets2DC broke them up appropriately.  After all if you have 60-70 odd senior saints on board, you have to stop occasionally, for obvious reasons.

At each stop, I would watch the expression on the caretakers eyes.  As the mass of people ascended on the rest area, their eyes increased in size directly proportional to the number of seniors.

Then the Blue Shirts got out the snacks.  This tub was huge.  It had to be 6 foot by 5 foot and 4 foot tall.  (Slight exaggeration!!!) And a similar tub of water in ice.  Yep!  Feed that army.

Our second stop was in Donegal, Pennsylvania at a rest area I-70.  OK, I was surprised.  Tables and chairs were setup already. Apparently, there was a vehicle with a trailer traveling with us and arrived ahead the buses.

Table cloths were taped down, silverware (the plastic form) were made available, and box lunches were served.  And more food than we should eat. And someone was kind enough to make Snickerdoodles.  Thank you.  That mantra was back, Feed that army.  Keep them full.

After a great meal, feeling a little stuffed, it became game time.  The best game was the Washington DC trivia game.  Not sure that was the name, but we did well.  11 out of 15.  And Connie won a POW/MIA ball cap.  That was fortunate, because she forgot to bring one.  Unfortunately, I did not keep it for proof of our win.  You will just have to trust me.

The second game involved seeing or discovering hidden items on a penny.  It was very challenging, but we didn't win.

Dinner was at the Dutch's Daughter restaurant that I wish I had taken pictures and documented better.  It was delicious.

Personally, I had Honey Roasted Salmon and Chicken Cordon Bleu.  Again, the emphasis was on "keep them full with delicious food."  And Vets2DC succeeded.  I had to waddle back to the bus.  I barely made it up the steps to get on.  (I have got to learn to say NO More!)  They, at least, didn't serve us MRE's. (Meals Ready to Eat, ask a soldier about how good they are.)

Our nighttime lodging.  We were on the fifth floor.  Can you see us waving?

Accommodations were excellent.  Did I tell you that we were on the fifth floor.  They even give you complementary tissues for nose bleeds.

Seriously, Vets2DC took care of everything and delivered our luggage to the room.  Then, down to the basement for a brief "?" meeting about the next day activities.

Breakfast was normal hotel food, but actually tasted good, not rubbery.  Obviously, this place was a better class of hotel than we were use to.
